Keywords: Mother of God, Theotokos, Sofian Boghiu, Arsenie Papacioc, Teofil Paraianu, post-communist religious revival
Abstract:

In the first decade after the falling of the communist regime, the Romanian society witnessed an unexpected religious revival which characterized especially the young generation. The study evokes three spiritual Fathers who highly contributed to this revival, namely Sofian Boghiu, Arsenie Papacioc and Teofil Paraianu, by presenting their sermons and occasional speeches about the Mother of God (Theotokos). Thus, Father Sofian focused on the intercessory power of Theotokos, Father Arsenie always made a parallel between the role of Theotokos in the history of redemption and the role of woman in the contemporary society and family, while Father Teofil was concerned with the liturgical texts about Theotokos. The study intended to highlight that, despite their different personalities and different approaches while presenting the Orthodox teaching about Theotokos, their discourse based on biblical writings and patristic tradition forms a coherent and unitary message.

Retorica Epistolei către Galateni: între actualitate și forțare contextuală / The rhetoric of the Epistle to Galatians: between actuality and forced contextuality

Autor: Pr. drd. Cătălin Varga
Keywords: Galatians, rhetorical criticism, epistolography, H.D. Betz, epideictic oratory.
Abstract:

It is often said that Paul’s letter to the Galatians can be analysed according to Greco-Roman rhetoric and epistolography. This possibility raises the whole question of Paul’s relationship to the rhetorical and literary disciplines and culture, a question which I adequately discuss in the very first chapters. The final part of my paper contains my original point of view, providing a criticisms of German scholar Hans Dieter Betz’s rhetorical commentary of the epistle, which I find it very unappropriated. Indeed, neither a judicial nor a deliberative nor a demonstrative type of speech would have been appropriate here, as Saint Paul is neither addressing a court of law from which he expects a verdict at the end. I post here that it is not surprising that the categories of ancient rhetoric fail us with respect to the structure of this epistle, because it is an epistle, and they were not made nor meant to fit such kinds of composition.

Elemente de antropologie și soteriologie în doctrina Sfântului Grigore al Nyssei / Elements of anthropology and soteriology in the doctrine of Saint Gregory of Nyssa

Autor: Dr. Raul-Constantin TĂNASE
Keywords: deification, salvation, redemption, the image of God, likeness
Abstract:

The creation of man in the image and likeness of God is a fundamental and distinctive feature of the teaching of orthodox faith. The union with God or the deification by means of the uncreated divine energies constitutes, in the orthodox vision, the purpose of human existence, a perfection that starts from the frameworks of the present life, hic et nunc. The process of philocalic and patristic renewal represents a step of reconnection to the living and personal truth and a guarantee of the authentic experience of the church life. The present study aims to analyze a series of elements characteristic of the teaching of soteriology and anthropology found in the theological work of St. Gregory of Nyssa.

Keywords:  marriage, divorce, family, legislation, canon, husband and wife
Abstract:

The purpose of this article is to analyse the family and marriage in the Byzantium of the first Christian millennium, both from the perspective of civil law and ecclesiastical canons. In order to achieve this, the main sources and collections of Byzantine laws from that period were analysed, as well as the Orthodox canons of the Holy Fathers which had as a central topic the marriage and the family. By examining these resources and tracking the evolution of civil law, the article reveals the importance of the teaching of the Orthodox Church, which has imposed its mark on the life of Byzantine society, by promoting the sanctity of Christian marriage and woman’s importance in society, but also the efforts of Byzantine emperors in this direction, by promulgating laws, which are in conformity with the ecclesiastical teaching. Until these facts happened, the society disregarded the woman and her rights and the act of marriage as well.

ÎNAPOI [X]
Autor: Drd. Alexandru LEPĂDATU
Keywords:  Eschatology, resurrection of the dead, hope, theosis, salvation.
Abstract:

This paper explores Saint Paul’s understanding of the resurrection of the dead, which is related in the Orthodox tradition with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The main focus of the study is based on the texts of 1 Corinthians and 1 Thessalonians. Other traditions regarding the resurrection are not neglected, because they represent an important part of the Apostle’s missionary work. Paul’s view on the resurrection is characterized by ‘novelty’ in the eyes of his audience, but it represents, in the same time, the main foundation for the development of the teaching regarding the nature of the resurrected bodies.

ÎNAPOI [X]
Autor: Dr. Adrian Marius MIHALCEA
Keywords: Revelation, seven trumpets, creation, judgment, eschatology, symbolism
Abstract:

The study focuses on understanding the reiterations in the book of Revelation of John. The purpose is to identify how they describe the spiritual evolution of the Church and its mission. The seven trumpets are presented as a parallel cycle to other septenary sequences (seven churches, seven seals, seven cups), a cycle meant to complement the others, to outline the picture of the eschatological events. The use of the Old Testament background and the thematic parallels in the New Testament are the key to the elaboration of this study.
